Resignation Letter For Personal Reasons Samples

Most people quit their jobs because of their bosses, but how many of them mention it in their resignation letters? None. Others resign due to location issues, health issues, a better opportunity, moving out of town, and so on. Some people honestly state their reason for resigning, while others prefer to write a resignation letter for personal reasons.

A resignation letter informs your employer that you will be leaving. Regardless of the circumstances, it is mandatory to provide a certain number of days’ notice as well as a valid reason for resignation. What if you don’t want to reveal your reason? Some people prefer to keep it to themselves, citing personal reasons, rather than giving vague reasons.

You also don’t want to leave your job on a bad note. Finally, you must maintain positive relations with your employer. You don’t want them to give you a bad review in case a prospective employer decides to check your references.

So, How do you write a resignation letter for personal reasons?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to writing a resignation letter for personal reasons without jeopardizing your relationship with your employer.

Do’s and don’ts before you submit your resignation letter.

  1. Speak to your reporting manager: Even if you despise him, the first person you must speak with before submitting your resignation is your reporting manager. Inform him in the person of your decision. It’s also fine if you don’t want to tell him why. Offer your assistance in training and transitioning your replacement.
  2. Do not speak ill of your company/manager: As previously stated, never, under any circumstances, speak ill of your company or your manager, unless something bad has happened to you. Never end a relationship on a sour note.
  3. Stay positive: Your reporting manager or bosses may try to persuade you to stay. They may even suggest a solution to your problem. Be ready to accept or deny with grace. See if something works for you and then make your decision. Remember that you are resigning for personal reasons, not because of disagreements with the company or the manager.
  4. Ask questions: If you have any questions about the notice period, separation benefits, transitions and handover, or documentation, you must ask them to ensure a smooth departure.
  5. Offer gratitude: One of the most important parts of a resignation letter is to express gratitude. Never forget to express gratitude to your superiors for the knowledge and experience you have gained.
