The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced new guidelines for correcting personal details in Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) accounts. These guidelines, detailed in SOP Version 3.0, replace the previous circulars and introduce minor changes to the correction process.
According to an EPFO circular issued on July 31, 2024, the new standard operating procedure aims to streamline the process of updating personal details such as name, date of birth, father’s name, and Aadhaar number. The revised guidelines emphasize stricter due diligence by Field Offices to prevent impersonation and identity theft.
The process of updating personal details involves a joint declaration, where employees request modifications or additions to their basic profile parameters. This request must be authenticated by the employer and supported by necessary documents. The profile parameters include name, gender, date of birth, father’s name, mother’s name, spouse’s name, marital status, date of joining, reason for leaving, date of leaving, nationality, and Aadhaar number.
The new guidelines categorize profile changes into two types: Major and Minor. Minor changes require at least two supporting documents, while major changes necessitate three. For Aadhaar-related changes, an Aadhaar card or E-Aadhaar card linked to an active mobile number is sufficient.
All correction requests must be supported by documentary proof as specified in Annexure-I of the circular. Minor changes require two relevant documents, while major changes need three. For Aadhaar corrections, only the Aadhaar card or E-Aadhaar card linked to an active mobile number is required.
These new guidelines aim to enhance the accuracy and security of EPF accounts by ensuring proper verification of personal details.
